1982 State Birds and Flowers
On April 14, 1982, the United States
Postal Service issued its second fifty-stamp
sheet with all-different designs. Created
by artists Arthur and Alan Singer (the first
father and son to design a U.S. postage
stamp), each stamp is unique. This series
is the first of its size to display original
artwork for each different stamp. North
Carolina and Virginia share both their state
flower (Flowering Dogwood) and their
