On October 9th, 1825, the first Norwegian immigrants arrived in New York on the Sloop Restaurationen. In the year 1000 A.D., Leif Ericson and his men had visited America as well. The stamps picture the sailing vessels both groups used. If you notice an unusual flag on the Viking ship, it’s the Stars and Stripes! This design shows a replica sailed from Norway to America in 1893 for the World’s Columbian Exposition. The 2-color production costs for these stamps were high, so quantities printed were low. Now they’re scarce and elusive. 1925-26 Regular Issue Stamps 623 622 Wilson B.
